Medvedevo is an urban locality and the administrative center of Medvedevsky District of the Mari El Republic, Russia. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 16,841. Medvedevo is situated 9 km south of Shikhmamat.

Yoshkar-Ola is the capital of Mari El in the Volga Region of the Russian Federation. The city was founded in 1584 during the reign of Ivan IV The Terrible as a fortification post with the purpose of controlling the newly annexed Kazan Khanate.
