Ōtaua is a rural community in the Far North District and Northland Region of New Zealand's North Island. The local Pukerātā or Ōtaua Marae is a meeting place of the Ngāpuhi hapū of Ngāi Tāwake and Ngaitu te Auru / Ngaitu. Ōtaua is situated 6 km northwest of Mataraua.

The eastern part of the locality has a hill Tautoro at 463 m in height, and Lake Tauanui which has sometimes also been given the locality's name. Tautoro is situated 10 km northeast of Mataraua.
