Piarere is a locality in the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. It is situated on State Highway 29 close to its junction with State Highway 1, close to the shore of Lake Karapiro. Piarere is situated 4½ km north of Piarere Stream.

Tīrau is a small town in the Waikato region of the North Island of New Zealand, 50 kilometres southeast of Hamilton. The town has a population of 804. In the Māori language, "Tīrau" means "place of many cabbage trees." Tīrau is a major junction in the New Zealand state highway network, sitting at the junctions of State Highway 1, State Highway 5, and State Highway 27. Tīrau is situated 6 km east of Piarere Stream.
