It was established on 1 January 2019 from the amalgamation of the communes of Évry and Courcouronnes. The city is the home of the Genopole. Évry-Courcouronnes is situated 3½ km north of Lisses.

Although neighboring Évry is the official seat of the Arrondissement of Évry, the sub-prefecture building and administration are located inside the commune of Corbeil-Essonnes. Corbeil-Essonnes is situated 4½ km northeast of Lisses.
