Pinneberg is a town in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany. It is the capital of the district of Pinneberg and has a population of about 43,500 inhabitants. Pinneberg is situated 4 km northwest of Halstenbek.

Schenefeld is a town in the district of Pinneberg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated at the northwest border of Hamburg. A 3.4 km tunnel between the town and the DESY research centre in Hamburg houses the European X-ray free-electron laser, with the research campus for the facility also located in Schenefeld. Schenefeld is situated 3½ km south of Halstenbek.
