It was mainly developed from the late 1980s by the Bangkok Land Company under the leadership of Anant Kanjanapas, and was envisioned as a satellite city along the lines of the new towns of Hong Kong. Muang Thong Thani is situated 4½ km south of Wat Pa Klang Thung.
