Golden Gate

The Golden Gate or Gate of Mercy is the only eastern gate of the , and one of only two Gates of the Old City of Jerusalem that used to offer access into the city from the East side.

The is an octagonal Islamic shrine at the center of the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on the in the . It is the world's oldest surviving work of Islamic architecture, the earliest archaeologically-attested religious structure to be built by a Muslim ruler and contains the earliest inscriptions proclaiming Islam and the prophet Muhammad. is situated 200 metres southwest of Golden Gate.
