The Capital Governorate is one of the four governorates of Bahrain. The governorate includes , the capital of Bahrain. It is the most populous administrative region in the country, with a population of over half million people in 2020.

The Al-Fateh Mosque, also known as the Al-Fateh Islamic Center and as the , is a large , located in , . Encompassing 6,500 square metres, with the capacity to accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at a time, it was one of the largest mosques in the world.

The is believed to be the first in , built during the era of the Umayyad caliph Umar II in Khamis. According to Al Wasat journalist Kassim Hussain, other sources mention that it was built in a later era during the rule of Uyunids with one minaret.
