Mount Hiei

Mount Hiei is a mountain that lies to the northeast of Kyoto in the Sakamoto district of Otsu city. It is famed for the extensive temple complex near the summit.

Enryaku-ji is a Tendai monastery located on Mount Hiei in Ōtsu, overlooking Kyoto. It was first founded in 788 during the early Heian period by Saichō, also known as Dengyō Daishi, who introduced the Tendai sect of Mahayana Buddhism to Japan from China. Enryakuji Temple, Monjuro is situated 470 metres north of Cable Enryakuji Station.

Motateyama Station is a funicular railway station located in the city of Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan, operated by the private railway company Hieizan Railway. It was opened as a way to access nearby campground. The campground has since closed. Motate Yama is situated 460 metres east of Cable Enryakuji Station.
