Narthang Monastery

Narthang Monastery is a monastery located 15 km west of Shigatse in Tibet. Founded in 1153 by Tumtön Lodrö Drakpa, a student of Sharawa Yonten Drak. Narthang was an influential Kadam monastery, and the fourth great monastery of Tsang, with Shalu Monastery, Sakya and Tashilhunpo. Narthang Monastery is situated 3½ km west of Banjiulunbu.

At the time of the 2010 census, the township had a population of 5,998 and an area of 356 square kilometres. Qumig is situated 10 km southwest of Banjiulunbu.
