Heliopolis

Heliopolis was a major city of ancient Egypt. It was the capital of the Heliopolite or 13th Nome of Lower Egypt and a major religious centre. Its site is within the boundaries of Ain Shams and El Matareya, districts in northeastern Cairo. Heliopolis is situated 3 km northwest of Iskān al Marwah liḑ Ḑubbāţ.

The Baron Empain Palace, also known as Le Palais Hindou, is a distinctive and historic mansion in Heliopolis, a suburb northeast of central Cairo, Egypt. Baron Empain Palace is situated 2½ km south of Iskān al Marwah liḑ Ḑubbāţ.

The northern districts of Greater Cairo form a vast and highly populated region, but which is generally of little interest to the tourist. The ancient city of Heliopolis was here, but it's mostly covered over by urban sprawl of the Matariya neighborhood.
