Birkenhead Bridge

The Birkenhead Bridge is a bascule bridge in Adelaide, Australia that crosses the Port River. In February 1938, the Government of South Australia awarded a contract to Adelaide Construction to build a bridge across the Port River from Birkenhead to Port Adelaide, with Perry Engineering contracted to supply the steelwork.

The building, which is state heritage-listed, has been refurbished and is used as a cultural hub. Hart’s Mill is situated 340 metres southwest of Birkenhead Bridge.

HMAS Encounter

HMAS Encounter is a Royal Australian Navy naval base located in Birkenhead, South Australia. Initially in operation between 1965 and 1994, the base was recommissioned by Chief of the Navy, Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, on 28 May 2022.
