Tamarugal Province is one of two provinces in the northern Chilean region of Tarapacá, the other being the Iquique Province. Pozo Almonte is a city and commune of Chile located in the interior of Atacama Desert. It has been the capital of Tamarugal Province since this province was established in 2007.

Humberstone and Santa Laura Saltpeter Works are two former saltpeter refineries located in northern Chile. They were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, as a testament to the historical importance of saltpeter mining in Chile and the culture and social agenda that developed around it in the late 19th century. Humberstone and Santa Laura Saltpeter Works is situated 6 km north of Tamarugal Province.
