Al-Azhar Mosque, known in Egypt simply as al-Azhar, is a mosque in the historic Islamic core of the city of Cairo, Egypt. Commissioned as the new capital of the Fatimid Caliphate in 970 CE, it was the first mosque established in a city that eventually earned the nickname "the City of a Thousand Minarets". Al-Azhar Mosque is situated 270 metres southeast of Bāb al-Bādistān.

The al-Hussein Mosque is a mosque and mausoleum, located near the Khan el-Khalili bazaar in Cairo, Egypt. Containing the tomb of Husayn ibn Ali that was originally built in 1154, the mosque and mausoleum were reconstructed in 1874. Hussein Mosque is situated 160 metres east of Bāb al-Bādistān.
