Otepää Castle was one of the most prominent centers of ancient Estonia and a crucial hub in Southern Estonia, being one of Estonia's strongest ancient fortresses, located atop the highest hillfort in the region. Otepää Bishop’s Castle is situated 3 km northwest of Pilpaküla.
