Tarcowie is a town in South Australia. Tarcowie is an aboriginal word meaning "torrential waters". It was named by Governor Musgrave on 20 May 1875. The dominant industry in Tarcowie is sheep farming, however in recent times wind farming may be taking over as the main industry for the town. Tarcowie is situated 6 km east of Gum Vale.

Village
Appila is a locality in the Mid North of South Australia east of the lower Flinders Ranges. It occupies much of the eastern half of the Hundred of Appila and a strip on the western side of the adjacent Hundred of Tarcowie. Appila is situated 10 km south of Gum Vale.
