Montmartre is a large hill in Paris' northern 18th arrondissement. It is 130 m high and gives its name to the surrounding district, part of the Right Bank.

The 18th arrondissement of Paris is probably best known for the hill of Montmartre which was the centre of the Communard uprising of the late-nineteenth century, but is also perhaps better known as the centre of the flourishing artist community of the period from around 1907-1914.
