Mentioned in the Vayu Purana and the Mahabharata as Kanakhala, Kankhal is one of 'Panch Tirth' within Haridwar, with other spots being Gangadwara, Kushwart, Bilwa Teerth and Neel Parvat. Kankhal is situated 4½ km northwest of Gurukul.

Har Ki Pauri is a sacred ghat on the banks of the Ganges River in the Hindu holy city of Haridwar, in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is believed to be the place where the Ganges leaves the mountains and enters the plains. Har ki Pauri is situated 8 km north of Gurukul.
