Situated in London fare zone 2, the station was opened on 12 May 1980 by British Rail as part of the Crosstown Linkline service between North Woolwich and Camden Road stations.

The Copper Box Arena is a multi-sport venue built for the 2012 Summer Olympics, located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, England. Previously known as the Handball Arena, it was renamed because, aside from handball, it hosted modern pentathlon during the Olympics and was the goalball venue for the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
