The Pont Neuf is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris, France. It stands by the western point of the Île de la Cité, the island in the middle of the river that between 250 and 225 BC was the birthplace of Paris.

The Place Dauphine is a public square located near the western end of the Île de la Cité in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. It was initiated by Henry IV in 1607, the second of his projects for public squares in Paris, the first being the Place Royale. Place Dauphine is situated 100 metres southeast of Place du Pont-Neuf.

The Île de la Cité is one of two natural islands on the Seine River in central Paris. It spans 22.5 hectares of land. In the 4th century, it was the site of the fortress of the area governor for the Roman Empire.

The unpopular modernist development was demolished yet again in 2010, and replaced by the Westfield Forum des Halles, a modern shopping mall built largely underground and topped by an undulating 2.5 hectare canopy.
