The is Kuala Lumpur's main shopping and nightlife district. Considered to be the closest thing to a Central Business District, the is home to the ever popular shopping area of Bukit Bintang.

Kuala Lumpur's is the traditional heart of 's capital city in terms of administration as well as trade and commerce. The City Centre comprises the former colonial administrative district just west of the confluence of the Klang and Gombak River, where Kuala Lumpur was founded.

Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Chow Kit and Kampung Baru are areas to the north of Kuala Lumpur's City Centre. They contain popular traditional shopping options as well as cheap authentic food and budget accommodation.

Brickfields is known as the biggest Little India of Kuala Lumpur. It is just south of the City Centre. Along the main road, Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Indian shops abound, selling Indian clothing, provisions and food whilst the surrounding area is home to both budget and luxury accommodation.

The Perdana , formerly known as Lake Gardens, is located right west of the . Many sights and the calmness away from the city hustle and bustle invite for a visit.

Damansara and Hartamas are two middle- to upper-middle-class suburbs which lie to the west of Kuala Lumpur. Although largely residential, both have pockets of good restaurants, watering holes and even some clubs.

Kuala Lumpur's southern suburbs lie to the south of the city centre, Brickfields, Bangsar and Midvalley and Ampang. This article covers the districts of Cheras, Sri Petaling, Bandar Tasik Selatan, Bukit Jalil and Old Klang Road.

Kuala Lumpur's Northern Suburbs is the huge area running north of the City Center and Tuanku Abdul Rahman's Chow Kit area. It is largely residential and industrial and will not be of particular interest to the visitor, except for the famous limestone cave temples of Batu Caves.

Ampang is a district of Kuala Lumpur which lies to the east of the . Whilst largely a residential area, it is home to Kuala Lumpur's Little Korea and many foreign diplomatic missions. All other neighbourhoods are mainly residential.
