Horomatangi Reef

The Horomatangi Reef or reefs is a feature of Lake Taupō, in the central North Island of New Zealand. The reef is named after Horomātangi, the tāniwha or water monster of the lake, who is said to reside in a cave adjacent to the nearby Motutaiko Island to the south.

Hatepe

Hatepe is a small community northeast of Tauranga Taupō and southwest of Waitahanui, on the southeastern side of New Zealand's Lake Taupō. State Highway 1 runs past it. Hatepe is situated 6 km south of Horomatangi Reef.

Waitahanui is a village in the Taupō District, Waikato region, New Zealand. The village is on the eastern shore of Lake Taupō, 14 km south of the district seat of Taupō. Waitahanui is situated 8 km east of Horomatangi Reef.

Motutere is a small township on the southeastern shore of Lake Taupō in New Zealand's Waikato region. It lies on Motutere Bay, close to the popular diving location, Te Poporo / Bulli Point, and approximately halfway between Taupō and Tūrangi, to both of which it is connected by SH1. Motutere is situated 10 km south of Horomatangi Reef.
