Gezira

Gezira is a district of modern Cairo that occupies the southern portion of the main island in the Nile within Cairo itself; in fact, gezira means "island" in Arabic.

The Cairo Tower is a free-standing concrete tower in Cairo, Egypt. It was completed in 1961. At 187 m, it was the tallest structure in Egypt for 37 years until 1998, when it was surpassed by the Suez Canal overhead powerline crossing. Cairo Tower is situated 3½ km southeast of Imbaba.

El Sawy Culture Wheel is a cultural center on Gezira Island in the Zamalek district on central Cairo, Egypt. Named after its founder and owner, Abdelmoniem El-Sawy, it is considered one of the most important cultural venues in Egypt and receives more than 20,000 visitors each month. El-Sawy Cultural Wheel is situated 1½ km southeast of Imbaba.

It is an affluent district on a man-made island which is geologically a part of the west bank of the Nile River, with the bahr al-a'ma cut during the second half of the 19th Century to separate it from the west bank proper.
