Argilus

Argilus or Argilos was a city of ancient Macedonia in the district Bisaltia, between Amphipolis and Bromiscus. It was founded by a colony from Andros. It appears from Herodotus to have been a little to the right of the route of the army of Xerxes I took in its invasion of Greece in the Greco-Persian Wars, and must therefore have been situated a little inland. Argilus is situated 620 metres west of Macedonian Tomb I, Argilos.

The Struma or Strymonas is a river in Bulgaria and Greece. Its ancient name was Strymon. Its drainage area is 17,330 km in North Macedonia and Serbia. It takes its source from the Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria, runs first westward, then southward, forming a number of gorges, enters Greece near the village of Promachonas in eastern Macedonia. Struma River is situated 2½ km east of Macedonian Tomb I, Argilos.
