It is a Spanish-speaking town, in which Spanish has the legally recognised linguistic predominance compared to Valencian, co-official regional language of the Valencian Community. is situated 7 km east of Pino Villalba.

With a population of 9,500, is the largest town in La Hoya, the mountainous western area of . Every year 40,000 people or more gather in the town to throw over 115,000 kilograms of tomatoes at each other in the yearly Tomatina festival.
