The cave lies within the Monumento Natural del Malpaís de La Corona, a protected area of the Canary Islands. Cueva de los Verdes is situated 4 km east of Malpaís de Máguez.

Volcán de La Corona is a 609 meters high extinct volcano on the Canary Island of Lanzarote, near the village of Yé in the municipality of Haría. Its eruption, around 21,000 years ago, covered a large area of the northeast of the island with lava, creating the Malpais de la Corona and two of the island's most-visited geological attractions, the Cueva de los Verdes and the Jameos del Agua. Monte Corona is situated 3 km north of Malpaís de Máguez.

Originally, this town was a pasture, as stated in an old document of 1576 preserved in the Archives of Teguise, in which Agustin de Herrera y Rojas, owner of the island at that time, bequeathed the property to his daughter Constanza. Yé is situated 4½ km north of Malpaís de Máguez.
