Fort Verena was an Italian fortress built between 1910 and 1914 to defend the Italian border with the Austro-Hungarian Empire at an altitude of 2,019 metres on the summit of the mountain of the same name. Forte Verena is situated 1½ km north of Baita Spelonca.
