Assur is an ancient Assyrian ruin in Northwestern Iraq. In the Bronze Age, it was an important trade hub. The city remained continuously inhabited for over 4000 years, but was abandoned in the 14th century after the residents were massacred by the Timurid Empire.
Kar-Tukulti-Ninurta
Archaeological site
Kar-Tukulti-Ninurta was a new cult center for Ashur and perhaps a new capital city founded by the Assyrian king Tukulti-Ninurta I just north of Assur. Its name meant "Port Tukulti-Ninurta". Kar-Tukulti-Ninurta is situated 3 km northwest of Upper Sudayrah.
