Situated at 3,256 m above mean sea level, it is the highest commercial airport in India and one of the highest in the world. Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is situated 2½ km northeast of Spituk.

The village is home to the 14th century Stok Monastery, with its 71 feet high seated Gautama Buddha statue, constructed between 2012–2015 and consecrated by the Dalai Lama on 8 August 2016. Stok is situated 7 km south of Spituk.
