Chersonesus, contracted in medieval Greek to Cherson, was an ancient Greek colony founded approximately 2,500 years ago in the southwestern part of the Crimean Peninsula. Chersonesus Taurica is situated 170 metres southeast of Храм-усыпальница.

It commemorates the presumed place of St. Vladimir's baptism. Vladimir Cathedral is situated 260 metres east of Храм-усыпальница.
