Chersonesus, contracted in medieval Greek to Cherson, was an ancient Greek colony founded approximately 2,500 years ago in the southwestern part of the Crimean Peninsula.

The Saint Vladimir Cathedral or Saint Volodymyr Cathedral is a Neo-Byzantine Russian Orthodox cathedral on the site of Chersonesos Taurica on the outskirts of Sevastopol, on the Crimean Peninsula. It commemorates the presumed place of St. Vladimir's baptism.
