It was developed as a result of a ten-year collaboration between the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, the Royal Estate Affairs of Oman, Jasper Jacob Associates, and Arts Architecture International Ltd, and opened to the public in 2016. National Museum is situated 420 metres southeast of Muscat Light.

Fort Al-Mirani is a fort located in the harbor of the city of Old Muscat, Oman. The fort existed prior to the Portuguese invasion and was later rebuilt by the Portuguese in 1587. The fort became the first to use cannons in Oman. Al Mirani Fort is situated 430 metres northeast of Muscat Light.
