Río Amazonas Airport is an airport serving Shell Mera, a town in the Pastaza Province of Ecuador. The airport was established in 1937 by Royal Dutch Shell and abandoned in 1948.

Shell is a city located on the western edge of the Ecuadorian Amazon and in the eastern foothills of the Andes. It is located about 94 miles southeast of Quito, and roughly 4 miles west of the provincial capital, Puyo.

Mera is a town in the eastern foothills of the Ecuadorian Andes. It is also the name of the Canton in Pastaza Province of which it is a part. It lends its name to Shell Mera, a larger town 4 miles to the east. Mera is situated 7 km northwest of Plaza Roja.
