Gaochang, also called Khocho, Karakhoja, Qara-hoja, Kara-Khoja or Karahoja, was an ancient oasis city on the northern rim of the inhospitable Taklamakan Desert in present-day Sanbu Township, Xinjiang, China. Gaochang is situated 680 metres northeast of Gaochang Gucheng (ruins of the Hun City, BC200).

The Astana Cemetery is an ancient cemetery 37 kilometers southeast of Turpan, in Xinjiang, China, 6 kilometres from the ancient city of Gaochang. It served mainly as the cemetery for the descendants of Chinese settlers in Gaochang from the 4th century to the first half of the 8th century. Astana-Karakhoja Tombs;Astana Graveyard is situated 3½ km north of Gaochang Gucheng (ruins of the Hun City, BC200).
