Al-Azhar Mosque, known in Egypt simply as al-Azhar, is a mosque in the historic Islamic core of the city of Cairo, Egypt. Commissioned as the new capital of the Fatimid Caliphate in 970 CE, it was the first mosque established in a city that eventually earned the nickname "the City of a Thousand Minarets". Al-Azhar Mosque is situated 1 km southeast of Bab el Shaaria.

The Aqmar Mosque or al-Aqmar Mosque, is a mosque located in Cairo, Egypt. Built as a neighborhood mosque by the Fatimid vizier al-Ma'mun al-Bata'ihi in 1125, the mosque is situated on what was once the main avenue and ceremonial heart of Cairo, known today as al-Mu'izz Street, in the immediate neighborhood of the former Fatimid caliphal palaces. Aqmar Mosque is situated 640 metres east of Bab el Shaaria.

The al-Hussein Mosque is a mosque and mausoleum, located near the Khan el-Khalili bazaar in Cairo, Egypt. Containing the tomb of Husayn ibn Ali that was originally built in 1154, the mosque and mausoleum were reconstructed in 1874. Hussein Mosque is situated 1 km southeast of Bab el Shaaria.
