Mynydd-y-glog is a hill just east of the village of Penderyn in the northern corner of the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff in south Wales. It lies within the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr Geopark.

Penderyn is a rural village in the Cynon Valley, Rhondda Cynon Taf, South East Wales, located near the village and community of Hirwaun. The name is a combination of two Welsh words: pen, which means "head" or "end", and deryn, a contracted form of aderyn, "bird".

Hirwaun is a village and community at the north end of the Cynon Valley in the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales. It is 4 miles NW of the town of Aberdare, and comes under the Aberdare post town. Hirwaun is situated 2 miles south of Twyn-y-Glog.

Penywaun is a community, electoral ward and north-western suburb of Aberdare in the Cynon Valley within the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. At the 2011 census, the population of the ward was registered as 3,063. Penywaun is situated 3 miles south of Twyn-y-Glog.
