Grand appartement du roi

The grand appartement du roi is the King's grand apartment of the Palace of Versailles. As a result of Louis Le Vau's envelope of Louis XIII’s château, constructed as part of Louis XIV's second building campaign, the King and Queen had new apartments in the new addition, known at the time as the château neuf.

The grand appartement de la reine is the Queen's grand apartment of the Palace of Versailles. Forming a parallel enfilade with that of the grand appartement du roi, the grand appartement de la reine served as the residence of three Queens of France: Maria Theresa of Spain, Marie Leszczyńska and Marie Antoinette. Grand appartement de la reine is situated 110 metres south of Vase de la Guerre.

The Musée de l'Histoire de France is a museum that was created by King Louis Philippe I in the Palace of Versailles and opened in 1837. At the time, it represented an ambitious project of national reconciliation between the hitherto competing narratives of the French monarchy and the French Revolution, to which Louis-Philippe devoted significant personal attention. Musée de l’Histoire de France is situated 120 metres southeast of Vase de la Guerre.
