Chersonesus, contracted in medieval Greek to Cherson, was an ancient Greek colony founded approximately 2,500 years ago in the southwestern part of the Crimean Peninsula. Chersonesus Taurica is situated 240 metres south of Монастырская купальня.

It commemorates the presumed place of St. Vladimir's baptism. Vladimir Cathedral is situated 200 metres southeast of Монастырская купальня.
