Pantikapaion was an ancient Greek city on the eastern shore of Crimea, which the Greeks called Taurica. The city lay on the western side of the Cimmerian Bosporus, and was founded by Milesians in the late 7th or early 6th century BC, on a hill later named Mount Mithridat. Panticapaeum (6c B.C. - 3c A.D.) is situated 2½ km north of Керчьхолод.

Kerch Fortress is a fortress in eastern Crimea, located on Cape Ak-Burun at the narrowest point of the Kerch Strait. Built in the 19th century, the fortress was originally intended to protect the southern border of the Russian Empire. Fortress Kerch is situated 2 km southeast of Керчьхолод.
