Ségou is a town and an urban commune in south-central Mali that lies 235 kilometres northeast of Bamako on the right bank of the River Niger. The town is the capital of the Ségou Cercle and the Ségou Region.

Kalabougou is a Bambara village on the left bank of the Niger River in the Ségou Region of Mali. Kalabougou is located across the Niger River from Ségou, and dates back to the Bamana Empire which ruled in the area from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries. Kalabougou is situated 5 km southwest of Kala-Were.
