Whilst the village is shared between the municipality of Glarus Nord, in the canton of Glarus, and the municipality of Schänis, in the canton of St. Gallen, the station is located in the Gemarkung of Schänis, where it is the larger of two railway stations. Ziegelbrücke railway station is situated 4 km northwest of Sporenfächer.

Kerenzerberg Pass is a mountain pass in the Alps in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland. It connects Mollis and Mühlehorn above Lake Walen. The pass road was built in 1848 and has a maximum grade of 10 percent. Kerenzerberg Pass is situated 2½ km east of Sporenfächer.
