El Escorial is a municipality in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, located 45 km northwest of the Spanish capital Madrid. It belongs to the comarca of Cuenca del Guadarrama.

Zarzalejo is a village in the Community of Madrid in Sierra Oeste, near El Escorial. It had 1,773 inhabitants in 2022. An ancient farmstead dating from Roman times was found here. It was occupied in the second and third centuries AD. Zarzalejo is situated 6 km southwest of Parque Santa Teresa.
