Podkarpackie is a mountainous province in the southeastern corner of . Its name, which can be rendered in English as Subcarpathian, refers to its location at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains.

is the capital city of Subcarpathian Voivodeship in the south east of and has almost 200,000 inhabitants. It was a private town of the Lubomirski family for centuries. It has a fine old town, two synagogues and some castles.
