Abéché is a city in central-eastern Chad and the capital of the Ouaddaï Region. By road it is 749 kilometres northeast of the national capital of N'Djamena and 164 kilometres northwest of Adre, on the border with Sudan.

Mao is a city in Sahelian Chad, the capital of the Kanem Region and the Kanem Department. It is the 16th largest city in Chad, and is located 226 km north-northeast of N'Djamena. The city is ruled by the Sultan of Kanem, the chief of the Kanembou people.
