Sokoto State is in the extreme northwest of the country on the national border with the Republic of the Niger in . Sokoto state was created in 1996 by the then Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Arm Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Sani Abacha GCFR.
