Southeastern is sometimes called the Alaska "panhandle". It consists of a thin strip of land and islands between Canada's and the northern Pacific Ocean.

is the capital of , in the state's Southeastern region. is on the North American mainland and yet cannot be reached by land. Effectively, the rugged mountains surrounding it make into an island city, reachable only by air or by sea.

is a city of about 9,000 on the Pacific Ocean coast of Baranof Island in . First settled by Tlingit Aboriginal people, also has history as a Russian settlement, established in 1799 by Alexander Baranoff of the Russian American Company, which became the Russian capital of Alaska.

is a scenic town of approximately 14,000 people along the Tongass Narrows, at the foot of Deer Mountain, on Revillagigedo Island in Southeast Alaska. It is the southernmost and fourth largest city in .

is a town with a population of less than a thousand in Southeastern Alaska. It is the northern terminus of the Alaska Marine Highway System. It sprang up during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1896-1899, and now subsists almost entirely on tourism.

is a second-class city in Hoonah-Angoon Census Area in the U.S. state of . According to the 2020 census, it had a population of 655, a 48% increase from the 442 recorded in the 2010 census, making it one of the fastest growing communities in Alaska.
