The area was laid out by landscape architect Jeffry Wyatville in 1811 for William Cavendish, 6th Duke of Devonshire, as pleasure grounds for the guests of The Crescent hotel to promenade. The Slopes is situated 450 feet northwest of Saint Anne’s Catholic Church.
