It is the main provider of district heat in Jyväskylä and it produced the steam used by Kangas Paper Mill until the mill was shut down in 2009. When the city of Jyväskylä expanded into Kuokkala, the eastern part of the town, it was deemed necessary to link the city centre to the new neighbourhood through a new bridge. Kuokkala Bridge is situated 2 km southwest of Library of Halssila.
