The airport is 3 km east-northeast of the city centre of Nouméa, the capital, approximately 38 km southeast of La Tontouta International Airport. Nouméa Magenta Airport is situated 3½ km west of Île de la Petite Fourmi.

It is currently the home ground of the New Caledonia national football team and was one of the host venues at the 2011 Pacific Games for the men's football tournament.
