Piscina Mirabilis

The Piscina Mirabilis is an Ancient Roman cistern on the Bacoli hill at the western end of the Gulf of Naples, southern Italy. It ranks as one of the largest ancient cisterns built by the ancient Romans, compared to the largest Roman reservoir, the Yerebatan Sarayi in Istanbul. Piscina Mirabilis is situated 400 metres west of Spiaggia del Poggio.

Pennata is a wreck of the crater of Lake Miseno; it is part of the comune of Bacoli. It has been considered a small island since November 4, 1966, when, following a violent sea storm, the strip of sand that connected it to the mainland disappeared. Pennata is situated 630 metres southeast of Spiaggia del Poggio.

It was a resort for centuries in antiquity, particularly towards the end of the Roman Republic, when it was reckoned as superior to Capri, Pompeii, and Herculaneum by wealthy Romans, who built villas here from 100 BC. Baiae is situated 3 km northwest of Spiaggia del Poggio.
